SatPreceding a special Siberia edition of Boiler Room, beamed live from the UIClub in Krasnoyarsk, CTM Festival director Jan Rohlf sits down with Morphine label head and CTM 2016 co-curator Rabih Beaini.
Since the label’s first release in 2005, Morphine has kept suggesting unexpected links between leftfield house and techno, avant-guarde electronics and free experimentation. Known for his grainy, imaginative techno as Morphosis, the Lebanese-born producer is increasingly steering clear of the techno realm, taking inspiration from a sprawling range of influences, from krautrock to new wave, free jazz, and folk music. The talk will touch upon Beaini’s work as an artist, the concept behind his Morphine label, the question of how to escape the western musical bubble, and on ideas that are currently shaping up for CTM’s 2016 edition.
Elsewhere at CTM Siberia, Beaini performs a live experimental solo piece demonstrating his ongoing fascination with analogue sound synthesis on Friday, September 11, and in collaboration with percussionist Daniele De Santis on Thursday, September 17.
A Lebanese-born producer best known for his grainy, imaginative techno as Morphosis, Rabih Beaini’s genuine musical ability and a range of influences from krautrock to new wave to folk music seep into his inventive, dark, and emotional productions. Increasingly steering clear of the techno realm in order to explore improvisation and new configurations such as with his Upperground Orchestra, Beaini retains an ongoing fascination with sound synthesis.
Jan Rohlf is the founder of CTM Festival and one of the current artistic directors.
